APHLC Condemns the Irresponsible Statement of Sri Tuliram Ronghang, Hon’ble CEM, KAAC
The All Party Hills Leaders’ Conference (APHLC) strongly condemns the recent statement made by Sri Tuliram Ronghang, Hon’ble Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), during a BJP-RSS political meeting held recently in one of the MAC constituencies.
It has been reported that the Hon’ble CEM stated that he “does not fear the six ex-militant groups or the civil society organisations, social organisations and students’ organisations of Karbi Anglong.”
Such a statement from a person holding the highest elected executive position in the KAAC is deeply unfortunate and irresponsible. Sri Tuliram Ronghang has been elected through the public mandate and has served as the Hon’ble CEM for nearly 14 years. Having received the mandate of the people, he should respect the people, their democratic institutions and the organisations representing their legitimate aspirations.
It is also deeply concerning that he reportedly claimed that he was not elected through the votes of the Karbi and tribal people, but rather because of the support of what he referred to as “RSS Bongo Sena, Bihari Sena and Marwari Sena.”
The people of Karbi Anglong have every right to know the actual meaning, intention and political motive behind such statements.
APHLC believes that elected representatives must remain accountable to the people. No political position is above the democratic voice of the people, and no elected leader should make statements that appear to threaten, belittle or undermine civil society, student organisations or other representative bodies.
Therefore, APHLC demands that Sri Tuliram Ronghang, Hon’ble CEM, KAAC, publicly apologise to the six ex-militant groups and to the people of Karbi Anglong, including all civil society organisations, social organisations and students’ organisations, for the said remarks.
His apology should not be limited to Sri Sarsing Ingti Kathar, former NDFB/PDCK leader and Hon’ble CEM, KWAC (Outside Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council). The statement concerns the wider people and organisations of Karbi Anglong and, therefore, an apology should be made publicly to all those who have been affected or offended by his remarks.
The people of Karbi Anglong deserve respect, accountability and responsible leadership—not arrogance or intimidation.
