Guwahati, February 1, 2026 – NPS । History was etched in the heart of Guwahati today as the silent
anxieties of government employee’s community transformed into a common voice of
collective resistance. In a landmark “North East Leaders’ Meet” hosted at the Assam College
Teachers’ Association office, representatives from all eight sisters of the Northeast stood
shoulder-to-shoulder, declaring that they will no longer remain silent spectators to the erosion
of their post-retirement dignity. (Leaders present in the meeting from Assam, Arunachal,
Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and State employees Associations of Assam)
The meeting, spearheaded by the All Assam Govt. NPS Employees’ Association
(AAGNPSEA), was not merely a formal gathering; it was an emotional convergence of men
and women who have dedicated their youth to nation-building, only to face an uncertain and
precarious future under the National Pension System (NPS).

A Fight for Dignity:
Addressing the media with palpable emotion, Abdul Rouf Ahmed (Working President,
AAGNPSEA) stated, “Today is not just a day of meetings; it is a day of survival. We are not
asking for a gift; we are demanding the return of the safety net that was promised to those
who serve the state. A retired employee should not have to choose between medicine and
meals. The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) is our birthright, our social security, and our dignity.”
General Secretary Apurba Sarma echoed these sentiments, adding, “The sweat and toil of a
lifetime cannot be left to the mercy of market fluctuations. Our families deserve stability. If the
government values our service today, they must value our survival tomorrow. This unified
North East platform is a warning that our patience has reached its limit.”
Resolutions for a New Era of Resistance
The summit concluded with the adoption of seven historic resolutions, creating a roadmap for
a relentless struggle:

- United North East Platform for OPS: A historic decision to merge the voices of all eight
states into one singular, unbreakable force. - North East Coordination Committee: To ensure strategic action, a Coordination
Committee has been formed, with AAGNPSEA leading the charge in the inaugural year. - The February 2026 Mandate: The leadership has resolved to launch a region-wide joint
movement within February 2026, bringing the Northeast to a standstill to amplify the cry
for OPS. - Engaging the Highest Offices: The movement will take its grievances directly to the
Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble President of India, alongside the Chief Ministers
of all North Eastern states, through a collective memorandum of pain and hope. - The Power of the Ballot: In a stern warning to political parties, the leadership declared
that in the upcoming Assembly elections, the employee community will use the “Power
of the Ballot” to support only those who stand for the restoration of OPS.
