Kangkita Das । In a remarkable display of courage, endurance and determination, 11-year-old Kangkita Das has etched her name in history by becoming the first Assamese girl to swim from Revas Jetty to the Gateway of India in Maharashtra. She has also emerged as the overall fastest swimmer till date on this route, according to official records. Adding to her achievement, Kangkita is the first swimmer from North East India to accomplish this prestigious feat.

Kangkita began her challenging swim at 5:00 AM from Revas Jetty while it was still dark. Battling darkness and strong tides for nearly two hours before sunrise, she courageously pushed forward against the powerful currents of the Arabian Sea. After covering a grueling distance of 17 kilometers, she triumphantly reached the Gateway of India at 10:44 AM, completing the swim in an impressive 5 hours and 44 minutes.

A Class 6 student of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Vishnu Path, Kangkita demonstrated extraordinary mental and physical strength throughout the demanding sea route. Her achievement has brought immense pride and glory to Assam and the entire North East region.

Kangkita trains at the Dr. Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex, Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, Sarusajai, Guwahati, under the expert guidance of her coach Babul Gurung, whose mentorship played a crucial role in her historic success.

Her inspiring accomplishment stands as a testament to dedication, discipline and fearless spirit at such a young age. Assam celebrates its young champion as she sets a new benchmark in open water swimming.
